The #2 ranked team in North America according to multiple national baseball publications came up against a buzz saw on Sunday afternoon at Joe Etzel Field at the University of Portland. The Barbers, who were fresh off one of their best offensive performances of the season were prime for the heavy weight showdown. The Barbers struck first scoring two runs off of Gabe Coltmans double down the left field line scoring Andrew Ha and Cal Gradwahl. The Barbers scratched again in the top of the second on Ryan Hemsley’s 400 foot blast to dead center field to give the Barbers a 3-0 lead heading into the bottom half of the frame. The Dawgs evened up the contest in the bottom of the second after scoring three. The Barbers were held scoreless in the 3rd and 4th while the Dawgs pushed a run across in the bottom of the 4th to take a one run lead into the 5th inning. Three singles to start the fifth by Ha, Gradwahl, and Coltman tied the game up in the fifth and a 400 foot three run homerun by Ben Foglio put the barbers up by thee heading into the bottom of the frame. The Dawgs were held scoreless inthe the fifth and enyerded the sixth inning trailing by three. The two time defending champs wouldn’t go quiet as they tied it up in the bottom of the 6th. A basees loade double by Ryan Hemsley scored two for the barbers and a sac fly RBI by Jonny King gave the Barbers a three run cushion heading into the 7th inning. Nolan Foglio held the Dawgs to one run in the inning and the three peat attempt by the Dawgs was over.
